IIW ( INSPIRING INDIAN WOMEN ) NORTH INDIA GLOBAL CHAPTER –
HARTALLIKA TEEJ CELEBRATIONS
Hariyali Teej, a vibrant festival that celebrates the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, is a cherished occasion in Northern India. Falling in the auspicious month of Sawan, this festival coincides with the monsoon, bringing relief from the intense summer heat and marking a time of joy for farmers as they anticipate a bountiful harvest.
On this day, married women observe fasts and pray for the well-being and longevity of their husbands, while unmarried women also participate, praying for a good life partner. The festival is marked by women gathering to apply mehndi, sing traditional songs, and enjoy swinging on jhulas (swings).
The IIW (Inspiring Indian Women) North India Chapter, under the leadership of Sunita Chaubey, has embraced this tradition by celebrating Hariyali Teej with great enthusiasm. This year, on 31st August, the chapter hosted a lively event that brought together women from the community to share in the joy of the festival. The event featured a series of beautiful performances, showcasing the rich talent within the community.
Performers included Aneesha Saxena, Anusha Baranwal, Prachi Tawade, Amrita Dolly Pandey, Neetu Saxena, Ushma Gupta, Ekta Mishra, Avaani Mishra, Yashvita Pandey, Akansha Shukla, Surabhi Srivastava, Manju Shah, Swapna Mukherjee, Seema Shah, Anchal Upadhyay, Shweta Jha, Arti Verma, Sunita Verma, Veena Mehra, Sakshi Chaubey, Aditi Pandey, Bandana Choubey, Vrishti Mishra, Aparajita Chaubey, Siddhant Chaubey, and more. The importance of the festival was highlighted by Juhi Srivastava and Shalini Jaiswal Shah, who spoke passionately about its significance.
The event also provided a platform for women entrepreneurs to showcase and promote their businesses, with stalls offering a variety of products including sarees, accessories, and bed sheets.
Entertainment was in full swing with live performances by Sunita Chaubey, who had the crowd dancing to a mix of Lavani, Sakalban from Heeramandi, and popular Bollywood numbers like “Paan Khaye Saiyan” and “Jhoomka Gira Re.” The decorations, orchestrated by Juhi Srivastava, created a festive atmosphere, complete with a photobooth, a UP-themed rickshaw for pictures, and interactive games led by Shalini Jaiswal Shah. The event truly brought a slice of North Indian culture to London, with women enthusiastically posing and capturing memories.
The success of this celebration was a collective effort by the IIW North India Global Chapter dream team, including Juhi Srivastava, Ushma Gupta, Shalini Jaiswal Shah, Nidhi Mishra Raithatha, Anuradha Baranwal, Savita Singh, Nisha Upadhyay, Bandana Choubey, Nitu Singh, Antara Tallam, and Arpita Chaturvedi Sharma.
